Do you know how you got your bellybutton? Humans get their bellybuttons from their moms’ umbilical cords. When it gets cut off, it leaves a little bit. That becomes our bellybutton.
What kinds of animals do you think get bellybuttons?
If you guessed mammals, you’re right. Although there are a few exceptions like monotremes, the other mammals get their bellybuttons the same way we do — from their moms’ umbilical cords. (A monotreme is a mammal that lays eggs, like the platypus.)
Some animals without bellybuttons are birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish.
Some animals with bellybuttons are tigers, lions, rats, cats, dogs and even whales.
